Winter Heat iRacing Stage race results
KW Cycling Academy just finished our first virtual Stage over the weekend. 65 athletes took to the start line in the 2 day stage iRace. Our 3 categories were packed with excited racers, when the flag dropped to start the event, the racing was hot and heavy... multiple attacks keep the racing very quick in all categories.
Stage #1 was a Criterium style event with bonus points scored be the first 2 riders across the sprint line. The 50 minute time limit put the pressure on the athletes to go to the front and push the pace. All 3 categories, had an average speed of 34kph... our youngest category was on fire to open the racing action.
The course was a classic in London (UK).... Box Hill is a 3.8km climb that determined all the top finishing positions. The KoM was worth up to 25 bonus points and the athletes took full advantage of the steep climb with 5 kms to go in the event. Again all 3 categories used the climb as the launch pad to attack their competitors.
In the end with pain etched on the faces of the racers a great weekend of iRacing came to an end.... We anticipate a extended stage race in early February... more info to follow.
